The 2016 Grammys Award Show was one of the most highly anticipated award shows of the year. Fans were thrilled for the event and for the incredible musical lineup which featured performances by Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Adele, Demi Lovato, Luke Bryan Sam Hunt, Carrie Underwood and more. What fans were not so excited about was singer/songwriter Rihanna’s last minute cancellation.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Rihanna was to set to take the stage and perform her new single “Kiss it Better” but backed out at the last minute. When she initially withdrew from the lineup, the virtual world took it by storm, with some reports saying she had a “meltdown” at rehearsal. The topic was trending on Twitter and everyone was buzzing, curious and bummed as to why she could possibly be backing out.
Little did we know that minutes before the performance, Rihanna reported that she felt ill and a doctor was called to her dressing room. She was diagnosed with bronchitis and strongly advised not to perform, due to the threat of extensive damage to her vocal chords. Clearly apologetic, during the show she tweeted to her fans (pictured below) in an attempt to smooth things over.
#NAVY so sorry I couldn’t be there ….. Thanks Grammys and CBS for your support tonight.
