Starbucks never fails to ring in the holiday season with their red winter-themed cups every year. But who says the holiday season ends with the arrival of spring? This month your beloved coffee company is offering a new holiday cup to spring into the upcoming season.
The “Spring” Cup is available at your local store starting on March 16th just in time for the arrival of spring four days later. These cups come in light shades of blue, green and yellow and have a either a solid, blank oval in the middle of them or a doodle drawing on them.
In the past Starbucks has had backlash from the public with some of their previous unveilings of cups. One of the most prominent criticisms of the cup thus far is the uncanny resemblance the cups have to the default profile picture that Twitter assigns new users. You may be asking yourself why this resemblance is a big deal. Critics of this cup have been posting on social media that they resemble “Twitter trolls” on the internet. “Trolls” are the individuals who use Twitter incorrectly and create a negative experience for other users, and often times they do have the anonymous default profile picture that Twitter gives you.
While this unveiling occurred in the past week, it is hard to tell if any more criticisms will come. As the public begins to receive their new spring cups there will be many more opinions formed on the design.
The bigger question is will this new addition be an overall success for the brand? I for one believe a little color in my morning cup of coffee will brighten my mood. This change in design could thrill returning customers and may even influence new customers to try out Starbucks coffee.
