Apple unarguably has a significantly large following in society today. Organizations like this tech giant have the impact to make a difference and Apple isn’t shy in giving back to the society that has built it up. Initiatives like Apple’s Matching Gift Program or Volunteer Grant Program have established the company as one with strong corporate values reflecting their interest in giving back . Today, these values have begun to expand with Apple’s latest launch of the red iPhone 7/7S.
Apple’s special edition red iPhone 7 launched March 24 in more than 40 different countries. The new release is not just the brightest color offered of the seventh iPhone model. In fact, the color doesn’t matter much at all. The iPhone 7 (PRODUCT)Red special edition device celebrates Apple’s ten-year partnership with (RED) and continuing support of HIV/AIDS programs. These programs provide counseling, testing, and medicine for those conflicted by the illness. Apple has contributed more than $130 million to HIV/AIDS benefits and research throughout its partnership with (RED).
So what’s so special about releasing a colored new iPhone? Well, Apple promises that with every purchase, the world will take continuous steps forward towards an AIDs-free generation.
With every purchase of (PRODUCT)Red, Apple will send a contribution to the Global Fund, which uses this money to finance different HIV/AIDS programs. Typical consumers can contribute to helping individuals and families affected by HIV in Ghana, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Kenya, and Zambia.
In order to announce the product, Apple held an unusually smaller press conference on Tuesday, March 21. Normally, Apple holds a conference every spring announcing their next latest installments to the Apple family. The red iPhone 7 was announced along with several other new tech devices including a new 9.7-inch iPad, and a new video-creation app called Clips.
The smaller media event was unusual for Apple, however, the announcement of the special edition (PRODUCT) Red was enough to make waves across online media outlets. Apple followers are now excited at the prospect of owning special edition iPhone and took to various social media outlets to express their excitement over the product.
Only time will tell how well the new iPhone will do on the market compared to its previous less-colorful models. Despite this, fans are eager to get their hands on the red iPhone and further contribute to AIDS/HIV research.
